Hunters Woods Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences
April 2, 2008
The regular meeting of the Hunters Woods PTA was held on April 2, 2008 in the Hunters Woods Elementary School library. The PTA meeting was called to order at 7:40 pm by the President, Maureen Becker.
The March meeting minutes were read and approved as corrected.

The PTA received a thank you card from the organizers of Odyssey of the Mind, thanking us for the support of the program and signed by the participating students.
PresidentÕs Report:
We have almost all Committee positions filled for the following year but are having trouble completing the Executive committee nominations for next year.
South Lakes High School is forming a new committee to get community input on the schoolÕs curriculum.
TreasurerÕs Report:
Deborah Lannen distributed a standard treasury report with current figures for the accounts ending in March.
Committee Reports:
Book Fair – The Book Fair held the week of 14-18, with evening hours on Thursday. Volunteers are needed to staff the fair and set up on April 11th.
Outdoor Beautification - Spring Work Day will be April 26 or May 10th depending upon the receipt of supplies. A discussion was held regarding the need to have various plaques, which have been awarded to be ordered and placed in the sculpture garden. We have ordered mulch for the area behind the science rooms. Spring Fundraising sale is happening at Gaelic Gardens.
Silent Auction – The Silent Auction committee is desperately in need of volunteers for all aspects of the Auction. The committee is asking for donations of large baskets or other containers for the larger auction items. Food and dessert donations needed.
Teacher Appreciation – May 5 – 9th – A general discussion was held as to where and when the Teacher Appreciation Luncheon should be held. Raba Letteri to follow up on ideas.
Nominating Committee – A motion was made by Deborah Lannen to confirm the following members of the nominating committee: Susan Brownsword, Marina Matthes and Karen Tate. The motioned was seconded by Susan Sather and passed unanimously.
Artist in Residence Program – Mike Pilato, a muralist, is coming to help the 6th graders create a mural to be painted upon the exterior wall in the sculpture garden. The mural will reflect the values of all HW students. 5th and 6th graders may get the opportunity to tour the new Newseum in Washington DC, which is opening April 11th.
PrincipalÕs Report:
Mrs. Toatley thanked the PTA for doing a great job supporting the Career Day at the school. 4th Grade Museum opens April 3 and the teachers have been working very hard with the students and are very enthusiastic. Mr. Adams was a finalist for the Teacher of the Year Awards (1 out of 5 teachers) and even though he didnÕt win, he is Hunters Woods Teacher of the Year! Mr. Hockett is going to be the new Principal of Colvin Run ES.
The Relay for Life Team of HW 6th Graders – lead by Olivia Wolf on behalf of Amy Boyle has been a testament of our students belief that we can all make a difference. This team has been raising money in support of Ms. Boyle.
Unfinished Business: none.
New Business: The proposed budget changes were discussed to support the Science Enrichment Program with an influx of $8,800 to cover the cost of 4 new laptops for the science lab, science books for K/1 classrooms, and new raised beds to replace decaying ones in the school garden. Marina Mathes motioned to approve the budget change, which was seconded by Susan Sather and unanimously approved.
There was a general discussion of the need for new Multimedia Carts, to aid the space and technology issues in the forth grade trailers. The purchase of 10 Multimedia Carts was approved at a cost of $6,900, to be allocated from the fixed assets account of the PTA budget.
The meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.
