Hunters Woods Elementary School for the Arts and Sciences

March 1, 2006

The regular monthly meeting of the Hunters Woods PTA was held on March 1, 2006 at Hunters Woods Elementary School . PTA President Cathy Uhrig called the meeting to order at 7:44 PM . Minutes from the February meeting were read and approved as written.

Correspondence

Deborah Lannen reported that a Thank-you note was received from the 5 th grade team thanking the PTA for their support.

President's Report

Cathy Uhrig thanked Lisa Foley for organizing the Sculptor, Kevin Reese. The stabile will be installed on Friday morning, and assemblies for grades K-4 will be on Friday afternoon. Thank you to Caroline Hemenway, Julia Sullivan, and Myron Rosmarin for the great job with Odyssey of the Mind. Cathy thanked Susan Sather for the Directory, Jessica Lewis and Raba Letteri for the International Festival, Christine Gambrel for Bingo and Susan Rigger for American Cancer Society daffodils. Also, thank you to all who are working on Snickerdoodle, and to Marina Matthes for Risograph and laminating for the teachers. Cathy also thanked Tracy Meleski for chairing Chick-Fil-A and the movie for the Silent Auction, and Cindy Kappel for heading up the baskets for the Silent Auction. Cathy announced that Susan Sather will chair the April meeting because Cathy Uhrig and Maureen Becker will be out of town.

Treasurer's Report

Cathy Uhrig reported for Susan Brownsword. Cathy distributed the Budget Report. She reported that the Book Fair still had not been paid, and that not much else was happening. The report will be filed for audit.

Committee Reports

Outdoor Beautification: Catherine Linberg reported that 2 new trashcans have arrived at Hunters Woods. She is still seeking replies from the Leaf Pick Up people. Catherine also announced that the Scouts will be doing a service project near the school. They will be cleaning debris on March 18, 2006 from 9:00 am-11:00 am . Catherine also hopes to plant some things in the spring, and she will be leading a Gardening Class after school. The Reston Association Garden Tour will be held on June 3, 2006 .

6th Grade Luncheon: Maureen Becker reported that half of the money for the luncheon has been collected. The committee is trying to get donations from businesses for prizes. Maureen reported that everything else is coming along fine. 6 th Grade T-shirts will go to the students before the 1 st fieldtrip.

Hunters Horn : Susan Sather reported that the deadline for the Hunters Horn is March 6, 2006 , and it will go out on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 . Susan also announced that auction requests will go out on Tuesday. She reported that the auction is coming along great, and that the movie for the Silent Auction still has to be chosen. Children will have to be signed in by an adult.

Book Fair : Nancy Mamros reported that she wanted to set up dates for the Pre-School coffee.

Principal's Report :

Olivia Toatley reported that two 2nd grade teachers are on sick leave, and one 2nd grade teacher has resigned. Olivia informed us that she will have new staff members fill these positions as soon as possible. Also, Maureen Kolbe has been hired and will teach 3rd grade.

Olivia thanked Lisa Foley for the great Artist in Residence, and she announced that Michael Newman is leaving Hunters Woods for a job at Colin Powell ES.

Olivia announced that the 5th graders will take the Writing SOL next week, and she thanked the PTA and Mr. Ware for Honk. The deadline for Snickerdoodle is March 2, 2006 , and then Snickerdoodle is ready to go to editing.

The next PTA meeting will be held on April 5, 2006 at 7:30 PM at the school. See the agenda for other upcoming events and dates.
