Parent Action on FCPS Budget Crisis

Are you concerned about the schools budget crisis, but not sure what to do about it?

Here are 5 steps you can take to support funding of our schools. Thank you!

1.) Let the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors know you fully support raising the tax rate so the Board can allocate the revenue needed to pay for our schools. Sample Letter.

2.) Urge Governor McDonnell and the Virginia State Legislature to stop the proposed budget freeze that would reduce the amount of state funding that Fairfax County is eligible for. This year's proposed state budget puts a freeze on updating the local composite index (LCI), and as a result, we will lose out on a significant amount of state money. Sample Letter.

3.) Contact the School Board and let them know you support fully funding the schools. Also let them know how you feel about the proposed budget cuts. Sample Letter. You can also attend a budget forum on Feb. 6th. (calendar).

4.) Help us leverage the support of the Fairfax Chamber of Commerce. If you or someone you know is a member, please contact the Chamber to request their support on this issue, which is critical to the success of our community and our businesses. (Support for this issue also aligns with the education goals listed in their 2010 Legislative Agenda.) The contact person is Robby Demeria, Vice President of Government Affairs rdemeria@fairfaxchamber.org.

5.) Share your ideas on this issue! Send comments and suggestions to president@hwpta.org
